After reviewing the National Weather Service forecast for our region, the Tyrrell County Schools District will move graduation indoors, to the Tyrrell County 4H Center for Saturday, June 5, 2021 at 9am. TCS administrators made the decision to avoid severe weather predictions of rain for our area.

We know that graduation is a huge milestone for our seniors, and this location and date change offers Tyrrell County Schools the best opportunity to provide this ceremony, while family and friends are already in town.

The ceremony will be streamed live on the TCS Youtube channel for those who may choose to watch from the comfort of their homes.

The district will offer shuttle buses from both parking areas at the 4 H Center to help you arrive on time for the occasion.

Only individuals with a ticket will be granted access or admittance inside the facility. Guests will need to be seated before 8:45 am, as the program will start promptly at 9:00am.

In accordance with NC Executive Order 215; as the facility is property of the State of North Carolina, COVID-19 protocols are required.

**Face Coverings are Required Indoors**

Our school district is informing stakeholders of a positive COVID-19 case at Columbia Middle School and on Bus 107. The district will be directly reaching out to staff and students identified as Direct Exposures in this case.

Broadband services are being made available to families with limited or no broadband resources through the Emergency Broadband Benefit Program.

The Emergency Broadband Benefit Program gives low-income households a discount on internet services. The program, administered by the Federal Communications Commission, opens for enrollment on May 12, 2021.

This is a reminder that the TCS Board of Education monthly meeting for May has been rescheduled for Tuesday, May 11th, 5:30pm for Closed Session & 6:30 pm for Open Session.

Este es un recordatorio de que la reunión mensual de la Junta de Educación de TCS para mayo se ha reprogramado para el martes 11 de mayo a las 5:30 pm para la sesión cerrada y a las 6:30 pm para la sesión abierta.

On Monday, April 26th, the Tyrrell County Schools Board of Education met and discussed increasing instructional hours for the remainder of the year.  A motion was passed approving the TCS Re-Entry Plan change to convert the remaining Remote Wednesdays (after this week) to On-Campus Instructional Days.   All schools will now be open on May 5th, 12th, 19th, 26th & TES & CMS, only, on June 2nd.  School hours will remain the same as what is currently in place, being 8am to 1pm.

El lunes 26 de abril, El Borde de Educación de las Escuelas del Condado de Tyrrell se reunió y discutió el aumento de las horas de instrucción para el resto del año escolar del 2020-21. Se aprobó una moción aprobando el cambio del plan de reingreso de Las Escuelas del Condado de Tyrrell para convertir los miércoles remotos restantes (comenzando la próxima semana) en días de instrucción presenciales en la escuela. Todas las escuelas estarán abiertas el 5, 12, 19, 26 de mayo y TES y CMS solamente el 2 de junio. El horario escolar seguirá siendo el mismo, que es de 8 de la mañana a 1 de la tarde.

School Principals' Day is celebrated on May 1st and we'd like to thank Mrs. Helms of Tyrrell Elementary, Mrs. Mathias of Columbia Middle, and Mr. Ziegler of Columbia High School - the educational leaders of Tyrrell County Schools.

Throughout the school year, these educators assume the commitment to lead our young people to a prosperous future. They support and guide quality teachers and staff, resulting in productive learning environments for our children. Whether they lead an elementary, middle, or high school, a principal shows leadership skills while being approachable. Many students see their principals as role models.

Principals guide academic success and set the tone for an entire school. In most settings, they are a visible leader, one the students and teachers see daily.

Teachers rely on principals to ensure the schools provide the necessary equipment and resources. They also rely on principals to counsel and discipline students when needed. A principal represents the school at community events and meets with superintendents and community members, too.
