A Message From Mr. Bill Ziegler
At its Monday work session, with input from the community, parents, staff, students, and administration, the Tyrrell County Schools Board of Education voted to return in August through 100% remote instruction. This decision will be reevaluated as we progress through the year and new data, information, and trends are analyzed. The reason for this choice is to keep everyone in Tyrrell County as safe as possible- as of this morning, our county has 66 cases and the number continues to climb.
There are still many details to be worked out however we learned a great deal from March until now regarding remote instruction. The takeaways at the conclusion of last year resulted in a few new procedures/resources/protocols you can expect moving into the new school year. Of course, as we move closer to the beginning of the year, items will be added, but below are a few of the non-negotiable principles/actions.
CHS will:
•hold daily regular virtual class meetings
•utilize Canvas so that students and parents have a consistent location to find important information about each class including assignments, contact information, grades, course syllabus, etc
•ensure teachers are available to offer additional support in student learning- either through phone calls, email, video conference, etc
•provide a "CHS Remote Learning Student Handbook" to help students and families navigate CHS remote learning
•remain flexible and understanding of the unique needs of each of our students
Please know that the entire staff at CHS is here to support you and your learning and is committed to your success and education. Please email or call me with any questions you have or suggestions from a student perspective regarding remote instruction!
